Hine-Ahu-One
A Polynesian chthonic goddess whose name means "maiden formed of the Earth". According to mythology, she was created "out of the red Earth" by the god of light, Tane (her consort), who "breathed life into her". She bore a jade-eyed, seaweed-haired daughter, Hine-Nui-Te-Po ("great woman of the night") who desended to become a ruler of the Underworld.
