Read On Down for Lot's of Other Good Stuff And REMEMBER to SMILE MORE
A Smile is a Wonderful gift that you can share with everyone and it does not cost you one cent, and will bring with it more smiles from those you meet in everyday life situations.
We all know the Wiccan Rede. Most all
of us have it memorized. But maybe that memorization, has led to us putting it
in the back of our minds. We don't think of it as much as we should. Sure, when
we prepare a ritual we take a minute to think about who this could directly
hurt, but that's as far as we take it.
Personally, this is what it means to me. "An it harm none, do what
ye will." The key word there is "harm". The first thing we think
of that meaning is "spells cast with the intent to harm another", but
to me it means so much more than that.
There are two types of harm. First is Direct Harm. Harm that is
directly put upon a person. This can be broken down into three categories.
Physical, Emotional, and Magickal.
Physical Harm is when you walk up to a person and deck them, or kick
them. Also included in this section are Child Abuse or Sexual Abuse. It's
pretty obvious that Physical Harm is not a very good thing. It HURTS. :o)
Emotional Harm is a little harder to identify. Making fun of people,
teasing, picking on, etc... could all be considered Emotional Harm. It's makes
a person feel like less of a person, and drops their self-esteem. Parents
constantly yelling at children or teenagers, with no attempt to listen to the
problems they face....Emotional Abuse. It makes you feel like it's all your
fault, when chances are, you didn't do anything.
Magickal Harm is what we all think of first off when we hear the Wiccan
Rede. Spells and rituals meant to do harm to another person fit perfectly under
this category. But, you must also be very careful to examine if you're
"good" spells can hurt someone. Always examine yourself and your
rituals very carefully. One small detail could be the difference here.
Those are all examples of Direct Harm. Harm done directly to a person.
But, I feel I need to mention Indirect Harm as well. Sometimes we put this off
because we aren't directly talking to or even considering the person. Indirect
harm can be as simple as talking behind someone's back or walking away uttering
something under our breath.
Harming no one is not easy. We all foul up. But we must all realize
that there are several things we do that harm other people without hitting them
or casting a spell on them.
So, what do we do to stop harming people as much as possible? The only
thing I've come up with so far, is to speak to the Goddess. If you're talking
to someone and they are rude or just plain mean to you, don't strike back,
don't utter something under you're breath. Just turn, walk away, and talk to
the Goddess. Let her help you put it out of your mind. Soon, you won't need to
walk away, you can just close you're eyes for a second and let Her take the
want for rebound or revenge away.
